Gene Valentine Gene Valentine was a registered KSHSAA volleyball official for 25 years, mostly in the northeastern part of the state. He officiated an amazing 2,303 matches and was selected to officiate in numerous post-season tournaments, which included 21 state tournaments and 20 championship matches, as well as 8 all-star matches. Gene served as an area supervisor for many years, and in 1984 and 1995 was selected as the Kansas Volleyball Official of the Year. Gene also worked 1,355 basketball games, 16 state tournaments, and called 10 championship games. He was inducted into the KSHSAA Hall of Fame in 2007. Gene passed away on September 4, 2011.
