Kerry Kapfer Kerry Kapfer was the volleyball captain her senior season in 1971, which was the first season for girls sports at Lawrence High. She went on to play volleyball at KU from 1972-1974. Coach Kapfer coached volleyball for 33 years, 26 of those at the high school level, and all 26 of those years at Shawnee Heights. Her teams qualified for state 13 times, finishing 4th twice, 3rd twice, runner-up 3 times, and back to back state championships in 1999 and 2000. She amassed a record of 705 wins and 348 losses. Coach Kapfer was an all-star coach 3 times, won numerous league and city coach of the year awards , and served as the KVA Executive Director for 9 years. She was a frequent speaker at the KSHSAA coaching clinic.
