The Kansas Volleyball Association held its 24th annual All Star Match on June 7 at Washburn University in Topeka. The Red Team defeated the Blue Team in five games by the scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, and 15-11. Leading the Red Team in kills was Kelly Kolich of St. James Academy with 12. Leah Flynn of Hayden High School and Brianna Kaiser of Valley Center High School also added 7 kills each. Abby Wittman of Sacred Heart High School led the Red Team in assists with 18, while Rachel Gray from St. James Academy contributed 12 assists. The Red Team was led by Kaitlin Stearns of Clearwater High School with 17 digs. The Blue Team was led by Katelyn Schmidtberger of Sacred Heart High School with 9 kills. Brook Jansen of Sacred Heart Academy contributed 8 kills. Julia Bates from Lansing High School led the Blue Team in assists with 15. Lindsay Dusin of Phillipsburg High School and Katelyn Schmidtberger of Sacred Heart High School added 8 assists each. The Blue Team was led in digs by Jocelyn DeMotte of Hayden High School with 15 and Sami McHenry of Shawnee Heights High School added 6. The K.V.A. also presented four of its annual awards at the conclusion of the match. Emily Lucas of Sublette High School received the Joan Lundstrom Wells Award of Excellence. The Flo Hyman Scholarship was awarded to Sami McHenry of Shawnee Heights High School. Julia Bates of Lansing High School received the Judy Bellomo Most Inspirational Award. The first annual Don Bechard Scholarship was awarded to Abby Wittman of Sacred Heart High School.
